  • Permission to edit the intended profile; verify its existing PIN when prompted

The current limit

The current Series Lock creation flow requires at least two participants or selected invitations, including your own profile. It does not currently provide a single-person Series Lock for keeping yourself behind a chosen episode.

This matters because several controls use the word “lock”. A profile PIN protects entry to a profile. Series Lock coordinates episode progress with other participants. The Adult section uses an owner-PIN session. These controls have different purposes and different unlock scopes.

A single-person Series Lock is unavailable in the app version covered here. No release date is announced for that feature.

Protect access to your profile

  1. Open Settings → Profiles → Manage Family Profiles.
  2. Choose Edit for the profile you want to protect.
  3. Enable Require PIN to enter profile.
  4. Use Set profile PIN, or Change profile PIN for an existing lock, and complete the required verification.
  5. Save the profile and check that its card shows PIN protected.

If you are removing an existing profile-entry lock, the editor requires the current PIN. It can show Verify PIN to remove lock. Creating a different profile or changing a source is not a substitute for confirming the existing PIN.

A profile-entry PIN is useful when you want to separate access to personal history and settings. It does not, by itself, create an episode-by-episode waiting rule.

Require approval before watching ahead

For a shared Series Lock, the creator can enable Require profile PIN for Watch Anyway. Every selected household profile must have a PIN, and an invited friend must configure a PIN on the profile they use to join.

When an episode is waiting, the challenge asks for This profile’s PIN. Successful approval allows that exact episode through one playback hand-off. This does not grant a blanket Series Lock bypass for the rest of the app session.

If you want to stop participating entirely, use the lock’s management controls. The creator removes the lock; another eligible participant leaves it.

Worked example

Ellis wants their viewing history separate from a shared living-room profile. They enable Require PIN to enter profile on their own profile. That protects entry without involving anyone else’s episode progress.

Later, Ellis and another adult decide to watch a series at the same pace. They create a two-profile Separately lock and optionally require profile PIN approval for Watch Anyway. Now the profile-entry lock and the episode waiting rule coexist, but neither replaces the other.

If Ellis only wants a self-imposed “do not watch episode five” control, a personal Series Lock is unavailable for that task. Adding a dummy profile is not a documented equivalent and can produce misleading progress.

Common questions

Why is Lock Series disabled with only me selected? The current UI and service require at least two selections. Choose an actual participating profile or accepted friend if your intention is shared pacing.

Does My Series Locks mean private, personal locks? It is the list of locks the active profile participates in. The label does not imply a one-person lock mode.

Can an owner PIN unlock a protected Series Lock? The challenge specifies the participating profile’s PIN. Follow that prompt rather than assuming all PINs are interchangeable.

How do I undo profile protection? Edit the profile, disable Require PIN to enter profile and verify the current PIN when asked. Save the change. This does not automatically remove Series Locks.

What if my installed app looks different? Check the installed version. Use the version applicability information at the end of this guide to compare it with your installed app.
