Sync has more than one scope

Different devices can look different without anything being lost. Odyssey separates managed account state, profile viewing state, connected services and device preferences. Diagnose the particular item that differs instead of expecting every switch, source secret and screen choice to travel together.

The current implementation has managed state for playback progress, watched status, favourites, watchlist membership, ratings and related profile information. Restoring a title's identity is still separate from finding an authorised playable version in the device's current catalogue.

Compare the same account, profile and title

  1. Confirm both devices are connected to the intended managed Odyssey account. Do not enter a different management code merely as a test: connecting another account changes the account context.
  2. Choose the same profile on both devices.
  3. Compare the exact film and year, or series, season and episode. Different editions and ambiguous catalogue identities can produce misleading comparisons.
  4. Check that both devices can access a valid source for that title.
  5. Keep the devices connected while checking the ordinary account reconciliation state. If Odyssey reports that account state is temporarily unavailable, retain the message and try again after the connection is available.
  6. Compare one small change, such as a single list entry or a short playback session, before changing many settings.

The verified account connection flow can show Waiting for the first player to finish secure setup…, Account state is temporarily unavailable. Try again shortly., Your managed account is updated. or Sources and profiles are current. These messages describe different stages.

Know the preferences that stay local

Text Size for detail screens stays on the device. Subtitle size and vertical position also stay on the device. Weekly Collections Region and Seasonal Collections are device choices. You may reasonably want larger text on the television and a different subtitle position on the phone.

A person's Favourite/Following marker is stored locally for that profile in the inspected implementation. Favouriting a person also requests watchlist additions for their currently listed unwatched titles, but that does not make the person's following marker a universal synced subscription.

Use the exact preference as your test. A correctly local size setting is poor evidence that managed viewing progress has failed.

Do not equate viewing sync with credentials

Managed source configuration has its own authenticated reconciliation flow. The player-state media payload deliberately excludes provider artwork and playback URLs because those can carry signed access details. A synced progress record is therefore not a transferable stream link.

Check managed account connection and source access separately from the viewing record. A saved position can be correct while the corresponding source is unavailable on that device. Restoring progress is not a way to transfer a private media file or its playback permissions.

A television with larger subtitles

You resume the same episode on an iPad and an Apple TV, but the television's subtitle text is larger. If the account and profile match and progress is correct, that difference is expected: subtitle size is device-local.

If progress also differs, finish a short test through the ordinary Back action, keep the connection available and compare the same episode again. Note the time and both displayed positions. Avoid repeatedly marking the whole series watched or reconnecting the account, as those actions introduce additional changes.

Report a precise mismatch

If the mismatch persists, record both device types, app versions, the profile name without private identifiers, the exact item and the setting or state that differs. State which device made the change and when, and include any account-state message.

Never send a management code, provider password or access token to illustrate that two accounts match. Support can work from the symptom and approved diagnostic information without those secrets in an email.

Quick answers

Does a friend invitation connect all their providers to my account? No. Invitations do not grant provider access or media rights.

Should every setting become identical immediately? No. Scope, connection state, service confirmation and local preferences matter. This guide does not promise a fixed sync time.

Will resetting the app guarantee a repair? No. Preserve the comparison and account context before considering a reset.
