Before you begin
- Owner authority and required passcode
- Correct active profile
What the setting changes
Kids Mode is the app’s name for profile-level content restrictions. Both supported modes hide Adult content. Advanced mode adds maturity limits and selected Home shelves. These controls do not change the website’s 18+ access requirement: Odyssey is for adults, and this guide does not authorise children to use it.
The setting applies to the active profile. It is not a guarantee that every title has complete or correct classification data. Source restrictions, available metadata and separate account restrictions can also affect what appears.
Find and configure the controls
- Switch to the profile whose restrictions you intend to change.
- Open Settings → Parental Controls.
- Enable Kids Mode and complete the required passcode or owner-PIN check.
- Use Mode to choose Simple or Advanced.
- For Advanced mode, review the maturity ceiling and the available Home-shelf controls.
- Wait for the save to finish, then inspect Home and Live TV while still using that profile.
The editor can show Saving parental controls…. If it reports that access could not be verified or the change could not be saved, treat the requested change as incomplete and retry after resolving account access.
Simple and Advanced are different
Simple hides the Adult section and adult Live TV categories and channels. Other movies, series and channels remain available. Do not choose Simple expecting a broad age-rating filter.
Advanced adds a maturity ceiling and limits Home to selected restricted-viewing shelves. Settings require the passcode. Empty or unavailable shelves remain hidden; selecting a shelf does not create content that the profile cannot access.
Maturity filtering relies on available certification metadata. The current settings explain that unrated titles may still appear under the best-effort certification filter. Separate playback restrictions can apply a stricter policy to unrated titles, so review those controls independently.
Worked example
An adult wants a reduced-content profile for a shared screen. They choose Simple because the requirement is specifically to hide Adult categories while keeping the broader catalogue available.
For another restricted viewing arrangement, they choose Advanced, select a maturity ceiling and review the Home shelves. They test with titles whose classification they know and inspect the permitted sources. If an unrated title appears, they check the separate playback restrictions rather than assuming the maturity filter has complete metadata.
This review should be done on the actual profile after saving. Looking at the same title from an unrestricted owner profile does not test the restriction.
Changing or removing restrictions
Return to Parental Controls on the same profile and complete the passcode confirmation before changing Kids Mode. The source includes a reset action that describes removing this profile’s Kids Mode restrictions and local child passcode while keeping its libraries and viewing history.
That reset does not remove account-owner security, profile-entry locks or separate playback restrictions. Keep those distinctions in mind if a PIN prompt remains afterwards.
Household profiles using these restrictions may also have narrower social features. Advanced Kids controls make the native Friends flow unavailable. Household Series Locks can include restricted profiles, but this flow does not share their progress with friends on other accounts.
Common problems and questions
Adult still appears on another profile: check which profile is active. Kids Mode is a profile control, not a claim that every account profile has the same restrictions.
Home has fewer shelves than selected: source access, metadata and content availability still apply. Empty shelves remain hidden.
A title has an unexpected rating result: inspect the source and classification data. Rating filters cannot reliably classify missing metadata by themselves.
Can a PIN make Adult visible inside Kids Mode? The Adult destination remains unavailable for a restricted Kids profile. Use the appropriate authorised profile rather than expecting an Adult PIN to override this exclusion.
Do these controls replace age eligibility? No. They configure restrictions within an adult-managed Odyssey setup.
