Add and manage Odyssey friends

What friendship enables

Confirmed Odyssey friends can be invited to a Watch Party or a Series Lock. A friend request must be accepted before the person becomes an available confirmed friend.

Friendship does not connect someone to your provider account, supply a film or grant media rights. Odyssey plays media from authorised sources that participants connect. Keep full management codes, source passwords and invitation links private.

Find Friends & Invitations

Open Settings → SharePlay & Watch Party → Friends & Invitations. Use an eligible connected Odyssey profile. Friends is unavailable to profiles using Advanced Kids controls.

The page separates incoming friend requests, outgoing requests, confirmed Friends and Watch Party invitations. Treat these lists as different stages rather than assuming every displayed name is already a friend.

Send and accept a request

1. In Add Friend, enter the person’s identifier in Last 4 Code Characters or Email.
2. Enter a Private Nickname so you can recognise them.
3. Choose Send Friend Request.
4. Check Outgoing Requests. Awaiting response means the recipient has not accepted yet.
5. The recipient opens their own Friends & Invitations and chooses Accept or Decline under Incoming Requests.
6. Use Refresh if you need to recheck the result.

Use the last four characters when that is the requested identifier. Do not send the full management code as a workaround. If you use an email address, it must identify an account the service can match; not every player account necessarily has an email address.

Edit a nickname or remove a friend

Choose Edit Nickname under a confirmed friend, enter the new private nickname and choose Save Nickname. Cancel leaves the edit. A nickname is your recognition aid, not an account rename for the other person.

Choose Remove Friend and confirm if you no longer want the friendship. If you also participate in a Series Lock, review that lock and use its explicit leave action as needed. Do not assume that closing the Friends screen leaves a party or a lock.

Where supplied, a friend’s portrait appears in the native list. You cannot replace another person’s photo from your account.

Use the friendship

For a movie or episode, open the Watch Party host lobby, start the party and choose Invite Friends. The picker can show Frequent Contacts before other friends. A selected friend receives a Watch Party invitation that they can accept or decline.

For shared episode pacing, create a Series Lock and select confirmed friends under Friends on other Odyssey accounts. That produces a Series Lock invitation, whose acceptance and progress rules differ from a Watch Party.

Worked example

Quinn asks a friend for the last four characters of their Odyssey code. Quinn adds those characters with a memorable private nickname and sends a request. The friend checks the sender before accepting.

When their film night begins, Quinn chooses that confirmed friend in Invite Friends. Neither person sends their full account code or source password. Both still need a permitted source for the same film to join the title-based Watch Party.

Common problems and questions

Send Friend Request is disabled: complete both the identifier and private nickname, and wait for any active request to finish.

The request could not be submitted: check the four characters or email with the intended person. Retry later if service access is unavailable; do not reveal a full code in the process.

Friends are unavailable for this profile or account: check the connected account and active profile. Restrictions or an account-reconnection state can prevent access.

The person is not in Invite Friends: confirm they accepted the friend request and refresh. Sending a request alone does not make them a confirmed contact.

An invitation disappeared: invitations can expire or be used already. Ask the host to inspect the current session rather than repeatedly reusing an old link.
